3D Printer

EP-M150 Metal

The EP-M150 is EP’s entry-level solution to SLM metal 3D printing. This printer offers a decent 150mm diameter build volume for parts up to 140mm tall. It isn’t the biggest build volume, but this machine has more than enough power to create production-quality metal parts in a fraction of the time.

With the EP-M150, the final part is indistinguishable from a CNC-machined part. However, there are a lot of differences that you’ll notice. For starters, you’ll complete the full fabrication process in a matter of hours instead of days or weeks. Meanwhile, you’ll save a ton of money by avoiding machine shops altogether.

Your engineering company might purchase a EP-M150 as a means of bringing in-house metal fabrication to your list of capabilities. With this machine, a beginner can create metal parts with no headaches or previous experience needed. Just like that, you’ll unlock the ability to create custom-made, fully metal parts overnight.

Features and Benefits

Industry-Preferred Functionality and Reliability

EP is a printer company that focuses on reliability and functionality in every printer. Their industrial-grade metal 3D printers are priced affordably, based on how much power you get. Each printer is a strong option to have as a resource in your engineering department. 3D printers from EP can go days, weeks, or months without running, and they’ll operate perfectly the next time you use them. You won’t have to waste time with needless maintenance or calibration tasks, you can just start printing.

Expedite Your Time to Market

With an SLM printer from EP, you’ll speed up your design, prototyping, and production time. By speeding up each step, you’ll greatly expedite your total time to market. This could mean getting your product released before your competitors.

  • Impressive print speeds. With print speeds up to 35 cm³/h, you can have your parts printed and finished in a matter of hours.
  • Iterative design made easy. With an in-house EP-M150, you can design and print a dozen iterations within a week with no issues.
  • Production-quality results. As a metal printer, every part you make will have the quality and precision worthy of a production part.

The Best Way to Prototype

Prototyping has never been easier. With the EP-M150, you don’t have to worry about shopping around for quotes from different machine shops, deal with their backlog, or sign up for any long lead times. Instead, everything can be done with a laptop and the EP-M150.

  • Perform destructive tests. With a metal 3D-printed part, every destructive test gives meaningful insight into how your final metal parts will perform.
  • Amaze stakeholders and customers. Seeing a metal prototype is a great way to build hype for your upcoming product or secure more funding from investors.
  • Faster, more affordable prototypes. Making prototypes with the EP-M150 will save you time and money on every print.

Save Money with Each Part

Using an SLM printer like the EP-M150 has higher costs than a typical plastic printer, but you’ll be making parts out of pure metal. Compared to traditional machining, using the EP-M150 is a small fraction of the total cost.

  • Make intricate parts on a budget. With the EP-M150, you can make parts that are impossible to make on a CNC milling machine, and you still save money on each part.
  • The same accuracy and functionality without the same cost. On a table, a 3D-printed part and CNC-machined part look identical, but the printed part can cost pennies on the dollar.
  • Machine runs with little supervision. With the EP-M150, you’ll only need to be present during the start and finish of a print. With less supervision, you can focus on other engineering tasks.

More About This Technology

Selective laser melting (SLM) metal 3D printing is the newest form of 3D printing that is reserved almost exclusively for industrial applications. These printers are more expensive to purchase and have higher operating costs, but they create parts made out of pure metal. A bed of metal powder sits directly under a high-powered laser on an XY (2-axis) gantry.

When the laser shines on the powdered metal, the metal fuses together and becomes molten, then solid. The head of an SLM 3D printer will move around the bed of metal powder, fusing together your part one layer at a time. The bed then moves down a little, a new layer of metal powder is applied, and the laser continues working on the next layer. This continues until your part is finished.

After the part is fused together, it goes into an oven to cure and get rid of any additives in the metal powder. After some time, you’re left with a part made completely out of metal.

SLM Metal 3D printers rival traditional CNC machining, and the end result can be seemingly identical. However, it’s much faster, typically more affordable, and can run 24/7 with very little supervision, unlike a machine shop.

You can find parts made from SLM Metal 3D printers in almost any industry. Wherever CNC machining is used, SLM Metal printing can be the substitute. Examples include the aerospace, automotive, medical, industrial, and defense industries.
