EP-M450 Metal

The EP-M450 metal SLM 3D printer is a standalone production unit that can transform how you produce metal parts. It gives your team the ability to create parts out of pure metal, generating units that are nearly 100% metal by volume with very little filler. As a result, the parts you make are no different than a metal part you might make on a CNC machine.

However, there are a few massive differences: using the EP-M450 with cut down on your manufacturing time, minimize how much you spend on manufacturing, and allow you to handle manufacturing in-house. By simplifying your supply chain and moving to in-house manufacturing, you’ll have much more control over your final products.

The EP-M450 is one of the most accurate, precise, repeatable, and high-quality metal 3D printers on the market. Having one in your engineering department is a quick way to meet customers’ needs while saving money.

Features and Benefits

Industry-Preferred Functionality and Reliability

The team at EP ensures that all of their 3D printers are perfect for engineers just like you. These machines are durable and able to stand up to the demands of any industrial application. The EP-M450 is incredibly functional and reliable, allowing you to print parts at a moment’s notice without any issues. The machine is self-sufficient, and will aesthetically fit within your warehouse as well.

Great Functionality

The best 3D printer is one that has a wide range of functions and applications. As an industry-preferred printer, the EP-M450 has a host of sensors and software that optimizes all of your parts. In addition, the machine is mechanically sound and is perfect for countless applications.

  • Work with a wide range of materials. Thanks to the overpowered 100W quad lasers, this machine can handle a wider range of materials, including titanium, aluminum, and stainless-steel alloys.
  • Make large metal parts. With its impressive volume, you can make even larger metal parts with the EP-M450.
  • Multiple access points for cleaning parts. This 3D printer has multiple stations which give you glove access to your parts, so you can clean them without making a mess or getting hurt.

High-Accuracy 3D Printing

Accuracy can make or break your final parts. Luckily, the EP-M450 comes with very impressive accuracies that will deliver the precise parts you deserve. When you need precision, this machine will step up to the challenge.

  • Optimized gas flow design. With an ideal gas flow, you’ll notice more uniformity and fewer defects on each of your parts.
  • Repeatable precision. The machine is airtight and regulates oxygen closely. In addition, the laser heads use precision gantries. With all of these factors combined, you have a highly-repeatable machine that can make dimensionally identical parts one after the other.
  • Great uniformity across the part. A lot of design goes into the EP-M450 to ensure your parts are uniform and dimensionally perfect, every time.

Streamline Your Production Process

Your full production process can benefit from the EP-M450. It will help you from your first prototype to your small-scale production runs without any issues.

  • Quickly adjust printing parameters. When you swap from one material to another, the parameters automatically and quickly adjust to ensure you get the best results.
  • Integrates with your 3D CAD software. The EP-M450 can generate 3D printable files directly from your Siemens NX 3D CAD model, cutting down on production time.
  • Lightning-fast printing speeds. The EP-M450 offers printing speeds up to 190 cm³/h, which is unheard of. With faster printing speeds, you’ll get parts out sooner.

More About This Technology

Selective laser melting (SLM) metal 3D printing is the newest form of 3D printing that is reserved almost exclusively for industrial applications. These printers are more expensive to purchase and have higher operating costs, but they create parts made out of pure metal. A bed of metal powder sits directly under a high-powered laser on an XY (2-axis) gantry.

When the laser shines on the powdered metal, the metal fuses together and becomes molten, then solid. The head of an SLM 3D printer will move around the bed of metal powder, fusing together your part one layer at a time. The bed then moves down a little, a new layer of metal powder is applied, and the laser continues working on the next layer. This continues until your part is finished.

After the part is fused together, it goes into an oven to cure and get rid of any additives in the metal powder. After some time, you’re left with a part made completely out of metal.

SLM Metal 3D printers rival traditional CNC machining, and the end result can be seemingly identical. However, it’s much faster, typically more affordable, and can run 24/7 with very little supervision, unlike a machine shop.

You can find parts made from SLM Metal 3D printers in almost any industry. Wherever CNC machining is used, SLM Metal printing can be the substitute. Examples include the aerospace, automotive, medical, industrial, and defense industries.
