3D Printer

EP-M450H Metal

We can only assume that the “H” in EP-M450H stands for “high”, because this metal SLM printer looks like the EP-M450 on stilts. The EP-M450H offers one of the tallest build volumes on the market, adding verticality to your 3D printing operation.

Like the EP-M450, the EP-M450H has a quad laser configuration that can be upgraded up to 1000W, each. That offers unparalleled power, leading to faster operating times and availability to work with a wider range of materials.

This machine offers a ton of versatility that would interest the everyday engineer. The EP-M450H was built specifically for industrial applications, and this printer can revolutionize how you handle part production.

This metal SLM 3D printer can tackle massive projects and unlock the ability to avoid machine shops altogether. By pivoting to in-house production, you’re taking control of your workflow. This will greatly reduce the lead time and cost of your final parts.

Features and Benefits

Industry-Preferred Functionality and Reliability

The EP-M450H is one of the most versatile printers for any industrial-grade application. This machine can fit into an existing workflow and help you in more ways than you can imagine. Not only is it widely versatile, but it has reliability that you wouldn’t expect. You can keep this machine powered down for weeks, and it will be immediately ready to print when you finally do start it up. With fewer maintenance and service steps, this printer stays out of the way when you don’t need it.

Accuracy You Deserve

A 3D printer is only as good as the accuracy it deserves. With the great accuracy you get with the EP-M450H, you’ll be able to make repeatable parts that are dimensionally identical and within tolerance specs.

  • Optimized gas release. With the EP-M450H’s ideal gas release, every part will have fewer defects, be more dimensionally stable, and have better uniformity.
  • Great environmental control. The EP-M450H has dual containment, ensuring that the temperature, oxygen, and gas levels are perfect for every print.
  • Small deviation in part properties. As a standard, you can expect a deviation in mechanical properties that’s lower than 5%, meaning that your parts will be more uniform.

Stack Your Parts for Faster Fabrication

With the added height of the EP-M450H, you can further expedite your production process. Users typically stack their parts and create multiple layers in a single part. If you overnight the print, then you’ll have even more units every time you run the printer.

  • Incredibly fast printing speeds. With speeds up to 190 cm³/h, you can create massive parts in no time at all.
  • Optimized laser movement. EP’s team has a proprietary laser algorithm that optimizes its movement, cutting down on wasted time and resulting in faster print speeds.
  • Faster recoating. The EP-M450H adds a new layer of powder between layers even faster, which streamlines the production process thanks to this optimized recoating.

One Machine Does It All

With the EP-M450H, you don’t need to purchase a ton of accessory parts and add-ons. The machine will do everything you need it to do, on its own. This is one thing we love about the EP-M450H — it takes all the headaches and guesswork out of metal 3D printing.

  • Multiple access points for part cleaning. With multiple glovebox access points, you can clean and inspect your parts without exposing yourself to harm.
  • Big, powerful lasers for better parts. With four 1000W lasers, you can accomplish more with a single 3D printer.
  • Great powder recovery system. A metal 3D printer can reuse any scrapped metal powder during the printing operation, and the EP-M450H has a great recovery system that maximizes how much powder you reuse.

More About This Technology

Selective laser melting (SLM) metal 3D printing is the newest form of 3D printing that is reserved almost exclusively for industrial applications. These printers are more expensive to purchase and have higher operating costs, but they create parts made out of pure metal. A bed of metal powder sits directly under a high-powered laser on an XY (2-axis) gantry.

When the laser shines on the powdered metal, the metal fuses together and becomes molten, then solid. The head of an SLM 3D printer will move around the bed of metal powder, fusing together your part one layer at a time. The bed then moves down a little, a new layer of metal powder is applied, and the laser continues working on the next layer. This continues until your part is finished.

After the part is fused together, it goes into an oven to cure and get rid of any additives in the metal powder. After some time, you’re left with a part made completely out of metal.

SLM Metal 3D printers rival traditional CNC machining, and the end result can be seemingly identical. However, it’s much faster, typically more affordable, and can run 24/7 with very little supervision, unlike a machine shop.

You can find parts made from SLM Metal 3D printers in almost any industry. Wherever CNC machining is used, SLM Metal printing can be the substitute. Examples include the aerospace, automotive, medical, industrial, and defense industries.
