3D Printer

EP-M650 Metal

The EP-M650 is where EP starts distancing themselves further from competitors in the 3D printing space. The EP-M650 is a massive, large-format metal SLM 3D printer that will exceed your expectations. It offers incredible precision, repeatability, reliability, and speed that your engineering team deserves.

In addition, this printer has a lot of added automation and sensors to make your life easier. It will automatically calibrate the machine before each print, to ensure you get the best possible results.

The build chamber itself is massive, allowing you to make large metal parts from scratch. Plus, there are four lasers that are firing simultaneously to greatly reduce your printing times.

An engineering department can be self-sufficient with just the EP-M650. This machine can easily replace your manufacturing partner, and allow you to produce high-quality metal parts in-house. By simplifying the supply chain, you can reduce the cost of your parts and the turnaround time of each unit you make and sell.

Features and Benefits

Industry-Preferred Functionality and Reliability

The EP-M650 is a great example of a 3D printer that was built for an engineering team just like yours. It has all of the added features that make it a great addition to any industrial application. This machine has added safety features, an incredible performance, and repeatability that you won’t find elsewhere. It will seamlessly integrate into your workflow and replace any previous machining processes you went through. Instead of a full machine shop, you can exceed your manufacturing demands with a single EP-M650.

Faster Production than Ever

The bottom line is that the EP-M650 allows you to make metal parts faster than ever. You can save days or weeks in making a part with this printer as compared to using a traditional machine shop. All of these time savings play directly into your annual production volume and turnaround times.

  • Faster time to market. With print speeds up to 190 cm³/h, your parts will be done sooner and ready to hit the shelves before your competitors.
  • Prototyping phase is expedited. You can quickly design, print a prototype, iterate and tweak the design, and make a new prototype with the EP-M650.
  • Less time between prints. There are a number of features added as a standard into the EP-M650 which greatly reduces your time between printing parts — from optimized parameters to recoating and backup fabrication chambers.

A Safer Way to Print

In any modern manufacturing process, safety is key. To meet your company’s safety standards, the EP-M650 introduces a lot of added safety measures. This machine is rugged enough to keep up with your production demands, but it will never put the operator in harm’s way.

  • Real-time monitoring. Real-time monitoring of the gas, temperature, and machine’s seal will ensure that everything is contained and no one gets hurt while this machine is running.
  • Keeps your operators safe. With added glovebox access, operators can still interface with the printed parts while staying safe.
  • Double-sealing and locking doors. The doors are double sealed and locked, making sure contaminants don’t get out and the printing environment is perfect (for better part uniformity).

Accuracy and Repeatability You Need

With the EP-M650, you can make a dozen parts that are all dimensionally identical. This type of production accuracy can streamline your production process and ensure you get the best results.

  • Almost 100% metal by volume. The final parts are almost entirely metal, meaning that they perform exactly like a CNC-machined part — despite the fact that they were 3D printed in a fraction of the time and at a fraction of the cost.
  • Automatic calibration. Calibration steps are done automatically before each print, which allows you to get the best results possible.
  • Make dimensionally identical parts. You can run this machine 24/7 with very little supervision, and keep making parts that are dimensionally identical and ready to be sold or used in your process.

More About This Technology

Selective laser melting (SLM) metal 3D printing is the newest form of 3D printing that is reserved almost exclusively for industrial applications. These printers are more expensive to purchase and have higher operating costs, but they create parts made out of pure metal. A bed of metal powder sits directly under a high-powered laser on an XY (2-axis) gantry.

When the laser shines on the powdered metal, the metal fuses together and becomes molten, then solid. The head of an SLM 3D printer will move around the bed of metal powder, fusing together your part one layer at a time. The bed then moves down a little, a new layer of metal powder is applied, and the laser continues working on the next layer. This continues until your part is finished.

After the part is fused together, it goes into an oven to cure and get rid of any additives in the metal powder. After some time, you’re left with a part made completely out of metal.

SLM Metal 3D printers rival traditional CNC machining, and the end result can be seemingly identical. However, it’s much faster, typically more affordable, and can run 24/7 with very little supervision, unlike a machine shop.

You can find parts made from SLM Metal 3D printers in almost any industry. Wherever CNC machining is used, SLM Metal printing can be the substitute. Examples include the aerospace, automotive, medical, industrial, and defense industries.
