3D Printer

EP-M1250 Metal

The EP-M1250 is not only the largest metal SLM 3D printer on EP’s catalog, but it’s also one of the largest options on the market. The built volume is a massive 1250 x 1250 x 1350 mm, or 49.21 x 49.21 x 53.15 in — this allows you to make huge parts out of nearly 100% metal by volume.

To speed things up, the EP-M1250 has nine overpowered 1000W lasers that all work at the same time. With this machine, you can print aerospace parts out of titanium in no time. The best part? It’s still a less expensive operation than traditional machining, and it greatly speeds up the full production cycle.

With a single EP-M1250, your engineering department can bring all of your metal fabrication in-house. Doing this simplifies your supply chain and gives you a lot more control over your final product.

The EP-M1250 is an industrial-grade metal 3D printer with a big price tag, but the price is more than justifiable based on how much functionality you get from this machine, and it gives you more than other 3D printers with similar prices. This 3D printer is essentially a full machine shop at your fingertips.

Features and Benefits

Industry-Preferred Functionality and Reliability

The EP-M1250 is one of the best 3D printers for any industrial application. With a massive build volume, wide range of compatible metal alloys, and impressive repeatability, this printer is a great option for any engineering department. Its functionality is paired nicely with its reliability. This durable 3D printer can run for days on end without any hiccups. It can also stay unused on your floor for a long time, and it will immediately start printing when you boot it up. It’s a great addition to any existing or new production workflow.

Build Massive Parts

The EP-M1250 is also a great way to save money on fabrication. Though it might have an expensive upfront cost, you’ll recoup your money after using this machine long enough since it saves money with each print.

  • Faster and more affordable manufacturing. Compared to traditional machining, the EP-M1250 is a fraction of the cost and can be done significantly faster.
  • Low operational costs. Your only ongoing costs are for metal powder, gas, and electricity to power the EP-M1250. You don’t even need to pay a technician to oversee its operation, since it runs with very little supervision.
  • Great powder recycling. The EP-M1250 has a great system that recycles most of the scrap metal powder used in any given print, saving you money on raw materials during each print.

Power and Accuracy You Need

Taking a closer look at the EP-M1250, you’ll see the power and accuracy that this machine offers. This is one reason why this machine is so versatile and functional. After a simple install, this machine can start making massive parts with incredible tolerances one after the next.

  • Nine powerful lasers. All nine powerful 1000W lasers work alongside each other to expedite every single part.
  • Incredible accuracies. This machine can hit tight tolerances across massive parts, which is a very expensive undertaking if you were to try doing the same with traditional machining.
  • Repeatability and uniformity. Thanks to the mechanical precision and gas optimization, the EP-M1250 can create highly repeatable and uniform parts in bulk.

Build Massive Parts

The biggest thing to highlight about the EP-M1250 is its size. It’s one of the largest 3D printers on the market for industrial applications. As you know, larger build volumes can create larger solid parts out of metal, meaning that this machine can make an entire turbine in a single shot.

  • Huge build volume. A huge build volume allows you to print larger items out of solid metal, expediting any production project.
  • Replace an entire machine shop. A single EP-M1250 can do anything a CNC milling machine or lathe can do, so this 3D printer can effectively replace a full machine shop.
  • Great for prototypes or production units. Whether you’re making prototypes or final production units, the EP-M1250 can handle it.

More About This Technology

Selective laser melting (SLM) metal 3D printing is the newest form of 3D printing that is reserved almost exclusively for industrial applications. These printers are more expensive to purchase and have higher operating costs, but they create parts made out of pure metal. A bed of metal powder sits directly under a high-powered laser on an XY (2-axis) gantry.

When the laser shines on the powdered metal, the metal fuses together and becomes molten, then solid. The head of an SLM 3D printer will move around the bed of metal powder, fusing together your part one layer at a time. The bed then moves down a little, a new layer of metal powder is applied, and the laser continues working on the next layer. This continues until your part is finished.

After the part is fused together, it goes into an oven to cure and get rid of any additives in the metal powder. After some time, you’re left with a part made completely out of metal.

SLM Metal 3D printers rival traditional CNC machining, and the end result can be seemingly identical. However, it’s much faster, typically more affordable, and can run 24/7 with very little supervision, unlike a machine shop.

You can find parts made from SLM Metal 3D printers in almost any industry. Wherever CNC machining is used, SLM Metal printing can be the substitute. Examples include the aerospace, automotive, medical, industrial, and defense industries.
